I don’t know if I’ve already said this but St. Louis is a great place to be right now. The art, music, nightlife, food and coffee have me in a whirlwind. There’s always something epic about to go down and if there’s not you can slip into a friendly neighborhood bar to get your own thing started.
Friday night brought one of my favorites to the Firebird- Doug Benson. You may have seen/heard Benson in Super High Me, Getting Doug with High or his new Netflix special Doug Dynasty along with podcasts like Doug Loves Movies or The Benson Interruption. Let’s just say, he’s the busiest stoner I’ve ever heard of.
The show was a blast. Thinking back now, we should have rocked up sooner so we could have had a seat in the sold out show. Nonetheless, it was hilarious. With all the racial tension in St. Louis right now, the opener, Jacob Sirof, had a rough time getting laughs out of the mostly white crowd with his mostly race-based jokes. There was a running joke of a man sitting in the front who looked like a neo-Nazi that Doug and Jacob kept calling Hitler, which was pretty damn funny because he really did look it. Doug’s set was great as expected and even interacted with the crowd through tweets sent to him throughout the day. Check out a DLM game he played at the end of his set here on his podcast.
I also got to break out some new Vogue Footwear pumps to complete my stoner chic look. I love these heals because they’re so versatile and the acrylic heal is on point. I can’t wait for warmer days where I can sport these more often than my typical full coverage boots. Check out St. Louis-based footwear company here.
Doug Benson at the Firebird is just the tip of the iceberg of awesome event in the Lou. Here’s a list of upcoming events on my radar:
Jan 27 Saint Motel @ The Demo, 8pm
Jan 30-31 Cash + Carry, Two-day event
Sell Your Sh!t Sunday is too good to miss for a few reasons- 1) I’ll be selling vintage and whatnot along with some other rad vendors 2) IT’S TWIN PEAKS THEMED 3) There’s awesome drink and food specials 4) It’s the perfect thing to get you going for that football thing later that day.
See you around, St. Louis!
