“Since it’s beginning, Saint Louis Fashion Week’s goal has been to support local designers, to connect national designers to their Midwest customers and to strengthen the fashion community in St. Louis.” –Elizabeth Tucker, ALIVE Magazine
Wednesday ignited Spring Saint Louis Fashion Week and I was right in the middle of it all as a volunteer. I can proudly say I helped put on six events during the course of fashion week, including the STLFW Kickoff Party, Spring Into Fashion at Saint Louis Galleria, Rebecca Minkoff at Saks Fifth Avenue, Designer Showcase at Union Station Featuring Viktor Luna, Skif International, Novis and Harbison, Saint Louis Fashion Week’s Official After Party and the STLFW Designer Pop-Up Shop.
Being a front of house volunteer, I realized how much planning and hard work goes into organizing fashion week events. There are so many aspects that come together to put on the shows, but I want to recognize ALIVE Magazine’s Lindsay Pattan and Jessica Leitch because they kicked ass! Volunteering was a great experience; I really enjoyed it and felt in my element. I was happy to be apart of Saint Louis Fashion Week and all that it represents- supporting local designers and bringing nationally recognized designers to the Midwest.
Below are photos of my favorite looks of STLFW by Mark Schwigen. My local favorites are Blue Bird Apparel and Devil City. Viktor Luna stole my heart with his edgy, punk looks and those leather leg harnesses. Seriously. Life. Changing. I actually got to speak with designer Viktor Luna for a little bit; he was so down to earth and shared with me photographs of his inspiration. I truly enjoyed STLFW, from meeting designers, working with ALIVE’s amazing team to meeting other fashion-minded volunteers to which I can now call friends. I can’t wait until next season!
Enjoy the looks! xx
